Consulting activities
The global wine market today is pure competition,
and one needs to face and confront the standardization of tastes
everywhere. In order not to be phagocyted like the rest, one needs
to turn to new pages and reply with more virtuous strategies such
as better care of our native grape varieties and their terroirs
of origin because it is our differences that are our most powerful
tool in allowing us to overcome global tastes.
The native grape varieties are an important entity
that are best understood by those markets looking for wines that
are immediately identifiable due to their differences as they represent
the exclusive expression of a particular terroir.
In today’s world, the winemaker needs to be
humble and to grasp the whole picture, to consider the environment
the grapes grow in, the specific needs of each grape variety and
the capabilities of the people involved in the cultivation of the
vines and the production process, in order to transfer to those
producers all the necessary information guaranteeing a dynamic production
effort, precision, competitiveness and a final product marked by
consistent quality values. I have always stated that the true protagonists
that ultimately win the confrontations are the producers who grow
vines on their own lands, rather than the winemakers. During the
course of our consulting activities, we have set for ourselves a
few rules, the first and foremost of which is that we need to understand
the objectives and ambitions of the wine producer who has called
upon us, and also need to ask ourselves if we can furnish him with
all the information necessary to become the chief player in bringing
life to his ideas and future decisions.
Each wine produced, each wine trial for that matter, is checked
in its organoleptic qualities with the winemaker, after which the
nuances that characterize the single qualities of wines of great
taste, colour and fragrance have to be systemically analysed and
and checked over in an effort to understand fully how those vines
express themselves in that specific terroir and vintage. This gives
those producers who taste the wines the cultural tools necessary
for the appreciation of their very quality, and all the information
and sensitivity needed to transfer into the bottle the energy enclosed
within each grape berry. |
